Thoughts of a teacher in process.

He is Tyrone Steven Orrego Sánchez, he is 21 years old and he is studying a B.A in English and spanish at the UPB located in Medellín,Antioquia.
He lives at Boston neighborhood and in his free time he plays video games with his friends and also he does a lot of work out.
Now that you know who is this young man I will tell you more about his experience studying for being a teacher.
He chose this career because it was the most related one to translate that he found, but now that he is studying it, he says he feels comfortable because he has learned a lot of things in english and spanish that he didn't know and that the good things about this career is the emphasis in the learning skills and enhancement of english language but he assures that the spanish has been forgot a little bit in the career.
The most important thing is, Does he really enjoy this? He answered: "yes. I want to be a teacher because there is not more relieving feeling when somebody understand and comprehend something you taught"
He wants to be a tough teacher because he assures that's the only way  students will learn something for real, and  students will remember you forever.

Now that you have read this oppinion I would like to know about yours,

1. what was your first option to study?
2.We all have a teacher that we will remember forever, who do you remember and why?
3. How do you feel studying your career?

Being part of the "Dead poets society"

We all as humans have felt that we don't belong to the right place or that we are not making decisions to satisfy ourselves instead we are doing it to satisfy others deams, then, thanks some circumstances just few of us discover something that make us feel different and alive, for me one of those things have been poetry and literature. Fortunately I found a movie that is related to my experience, "Dead poets society", this movie reminds me some teachers that made me love poetry, and in the movie this teacher is Jhon Keating by the actor Robin williams; the movie is about a group of students of the Welton Academy in the northeast United States in 1959 whom have a new english teacher that is really different from the other ones; this new teacher, Jhon Keating, wants to inspire his students to live their lives like there is not tomorrow, the expression that he uses is latin "Carpe Diem" that means seize the day, since he is making them write poetry ,they start making a group that the teacher had when he studied in the academy "Dead poets society" and because of its, the students start living their lives in their own terms and just thinking "Carpe Diem", around this the movie involves a lot of events and complex, but the important thing is what this movie could make us think; it is not easy to live as we want to, but this movie really inspires me to make my desisions always thinking about the good things that could happen and leaving my fears away. Carpe diem it's a lifestyle, it is not just reading poetry and complain about the system, carpe diem means also to do something remarkable with our lives, living as we want is part of our nature and our race, so in conclusion this movie taught me that life it's really ephemeral and that one day we will be just a memory, as future teachers we could make that memory unforgettable or we could be just a person more in the world, working and doing what the system is asking you to do all the time.

Thanks for reading, now I have some questions for you:

1. Why do you think most of teachers don't care about helping their students in the process of creating an identity?
2. Why do you think you could be a good/bad profesional?
3. why do you think "seize the day" or "carpe diem" it's something relevant or it's something that you could practice in your daily life?

A play called education.

Once when I was a little girl, I remember that my dream was to be an actress, I thought that dream will never come true but now that I had the opportunity to know this kind and intelligent teacher, I could say that my dream will certainly come true, in addition my dream of helping people and feel that I could change a little bit the world, would be my purpose in life.
The teacher that I'm mentioning is a curly, thin and beautiful woman called Maria Lopera Rendón, but you can call her "Marita".
Marita studied degree in arts education, technique in theater, and she is an specialist in literature and a master in education. As you can see, she studied a lot and now she is working in the faculty of education of the UPB.
Her education its very important, but it is importan to also know what she likes , because that's one of the things that makes her a very unique person; when I asked her to tell me her hobbies she answered me: "My free time is dedicated on composing music, writing literature and being a happy person..."
Paraphrasing her words, but the important thing is that she wants to convey that happiness to her students and she really does it.
Her first class teaching was "meaning systems" and it was about the understanding of the art codes in favor of the process of learning the mother tongue with a psyco-genetic point of view.
Her first class when she was in the UPB high school, the institution told her not to dye her hair and that she had to dress up in a certain way; She wasn't agree with that terms so she asked for a course at the University and they gave her the course of "meaning systems"; she played music at the class and she prepared her class a lot. At that time she was in her practices as a teacher and she was really worried about having a theoric knowledge and a pedagogy foundation.

"I wasn't expecting to be a teacher, I wanted to be an actress, and I even quit architecture to study theater and I was doing good as an actress, but once my theather group was over, I started teaching and I realized that the classroom was also a escenary and people were having a strong connection with me as in theater and I discovered that I could sow one seed per person and change their lives, it sounds very romantic but that's what seduced me about being a teacher..."

Hello dear mates,
Let me ask you a few questions:
1. Why do you chose your career?
2.How do you see the class room? just as a place to teach or do you have a different point of view?
3.What do you think that is necessary for being a good teacher?

"Don't stand so close to me- The police" A song about an educational context.

"Don't stand so close to me" Is a single of the British band "The police". This song was produced on 1980 and it is a great hit of the band. What Sting, the vocalist, wanted to do is to take the book of Navakov's "Lollita" and put it in the song, because Sting was really interested in the dangerous obsession that is written on the novel.
The song its about a young teacher and a student that fall in love with him, and try to show him how interested she is about being with him, but it is a difficult situation because of the other teachers observing and the students that notice it and as the song says: "Her friends are so jealous...".
Sting was a literature teacher too and this could make us think that he wrote the song also for his own experience, but he denied it.

As teachers being in that situation could be really hard, however I think it is a funny song and being honest, as a student it would be funny and interesting to have a secret relationship with a teacher.
But as future teachers if we are in that situation I think that our moral would be tested and I think that it depens of the context, for example :
If you are a teacher of  elementary school, you are obviusly very, very older than your students and if you allow that a romantic relationship happens then you are not normal, let me tell you, you are a pedophile.
In the other hand we have the situation of  a young teacher in College and a student; the girl is consciuos and mature about what she is doing and maybe they could wait until they are finished with the course to be together. There's a lot of examples in the real life , of people that were in that situation and they are happy now being married or being in a relationship.
Another case is an old teacher in college trying to have a relationship with a young girl, I think that's sick too.

Being more related with the situation I have to say that I had that feeling twice and it was not very satisfactory for me, because I'm kind of shy as a student and I don't think I would be able to take the first step so it was a failure. Besides that I think that almost all of us have been in that situation, and if you as a student listen to this song you will want to have a young teacher to fall in love with; I think music have a really strong influence in education and in our lives, because when you are young and you just feel identified with a song you will want to do what the song says, and that's a fact of life. This song it would be good to use for a listening class, just learning the song and discussing about it just like a conversation class, but I think I won't use this song to teach a class, at least not a highschool class.

In the class that we had and that could share all the songs of my partners, I really enjoyed all the songs but the one that I really enjoyed was "Jeremy- Pearl Jam" the one that Alejandra brought, it was a really heart touching song.

In conclusion music is a good way to teach and it is a great influence in the learning process and in our lives too. We as teachers have to know how to use this tool in a good manner.

How would you use this song to teach a class?
Do you think that this kind of music or the lyrics of this song could affect your students? yes or no? why?
Do you think that this kind of situations represented in the song have exceptions? yes or no? why?
